Job Description

About SupergridEurope

SupergridEurope is an independent, non-profit initiative, dedicated to promoting and supporting the acceleration and realisation of a pan-European electricity supergrid.

Trifecta Energy, SupergridEurope, and Trifecta Ireland

Trifecta Energy CLG is a non-profit organisation established in 2025 by Lesley O’Connor, global renewable energy practitioner, investor, and daughter of the late Eddie O’Connor. Our mission is to reshape how the world thinks about the energy transformation and to unlock its abundant social, environmental, and economic benefits for communities everywhere. Trifecta Energy advances this mission through its two divisions: Trifecta Ireland and SupergridEurope. Together, they drive a systems-thinking approach that unites stakeholders across policy, industry, and civil society to create a clean, secure, and affordable energy future for all.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced person to lead the EU advocacy and public affairs activities of SupergridEurope, a division of Trifecta Energy. The successful candidate will be contracted by Trifecta Energy, working for SupergridEurope and can work with Trifecta Energy and SupergridEurope when required. This is an exciting opportunity to influence EU policies aimed at accelerating the development of a pan-European electricity grid fit for Europe’s renewable energy future.

The successful candidate will impact the EU policy processes, seeking reforms of the governance structures; market designs; grid planning; financing; innovation and industrial policies, among others. In the short to medium term, the focus of the work will be the European Commission’s EU Grids package of legislative and non-legislative measure, and other initiatives to promote a truly internal market in electricity, increased electrification, and the full decarbonisation of the energy system.

The successful candidate will seek to influence EU energy infrastructure politics and policies, including interfaces and agreements with neighbouring states. You will engage with the European Commission and the co-legislators throughout legislative processes related to grids. You will identify and work with partners and stakeholders among industry, policy makers, think tanks and other NGOs, academia and industry associations, to meet SupergridEurope, and wider Trifecta Energy public affairs objectives. You will develop good media relationships and be an active and credible voice on social media. You will also be expected to represent SupergridEurope at external events and meetings, while contributing to internal events and meetings.

Main Responsibilities:

  • High Level research and Policy Analysis

    Analyse policy initiatives, write and disseminate policy positions and responses to consultations. Write summaries and reports for internal and external use.

  • Advocacy & Policy

    Monitor and respond to relevant legislative initiatives and processes and organise SupergridEurope’s engagements in relation to these. Formulate policy asks and messaging and seek support for them. Consistently implement recognised best practices in transparency and integrity in policy advocacy.

  • Stakeholder Engagement

    Engage with the European Commission, governments, parliamentarians, agencies and other policy makers, mainly at EU level. Identify allies and partners to achieve SupergridEurope’s policy objectives. Manage relationships and engage with NGOs, academia, industry associations, and other policy stakeholders. Maintain policy engagement and stakeholder registers.

  • Communications

    Contribute to press releases and be an active participant on social media. Manage relationship with Brussels media. Represent SupergridEurope, including preparation and delivery of presentations at internal and external meetings and conferences.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in law, economics, engineering, political science or similar discipline.

  • Proven experience with EU public affairs work from an NGO, the private sector, a government institution, trade association, or international organisation;

  • Knowledge of and experience in engaging in regulatory processes and procedures of the European Union. Experience in analysing, formulating and promoting policy positions.

  • Excellent networker. Established EU energy policy network in Brussels, ideally with a focus on electricity grids.

  • Energy sector experience is desirable but more important is a passion for realising a clean, secure and affordable energy future for all Europeans.

  • Demonstrates the ability to collaborate effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a professional environment.

  • Demonstrates strong initiative, self-drive, and ability to work independently.

  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills. Foreign languages desirable;

  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic social media platforms.

  • Creative problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, communications and relationship management skills.

  • Established network in Brussels, including with media;

  • Technically inclined

Location & Benefits

  • Full-time position, reporting to the Executive Director (based in Denmark) and work closely with the communications officer (based in Ireland).

  • Most work will be in and around Brussels and Strasbourg. Additional travel must be expected, primarily within Europe, including to the Trifecta Energy headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.

About Us

SupergridEurope is a think tank dedicated to accelerating the policy, planning and delivery of an optimal pan-European electricity system designed to unlock affordable, secure, and renewable energy across Europe.

SupergridEurope was born from the realisation that Europe’s electricity infrastructure is not fit for the purpose of decarbonising Europe’s economies through renewable energy electrification. Existing governance structures, market designs and the business as usual approach to planning and building European electricity grid infrastructure, will not deliver on Europe’s political objectives for energy independence, renewables, competitive energy costs, decarbonisation and a genuine Energy Union.

The organisation’s work is guided by the vision set out in ‘Supergrid – Super Solution: A Handbook for Energy Independence and a Europe Free from Fossil Fuels’, written by Irish renewables pioneer Dr. Eddie O’Connor, with co-author Kevin O’Sullivan, former editor of the Irish Times.

SupergridEurope was founded in April 2025 by Lesley O’Connor, a global renewable energy investor and practitioner with over a decade of experience advancing decarbonisation projects worldwide and daughter of Eddie O’Connor. She served on the board of Mainstream Renewable Power for over ten years.

SupergridEurope is led by Executive Director Christian Kjaer.

SupergridEurope’s Vision and Mission:

Vision: A European Supergrid for an energy independent, fossil-free Europe, electrified by renewable energy.

Mission: Fostering delivery of a Supergrid as a European mega programme of mega projects with innovative grid technologies, providing an abundance of clean, secure and affordable energy throughout a single European market for electricity.
